Pepper 43C android

KIYOHARA Takashi
Hi!

I bought Perpper 43C.  I wish to work android on this SBC.
But, I try with android images from 'Software' -> 'Software Downloads' -> 'android'
-> 'Pepper Single-Board Computer and AM3354 Processors'.

  i.e.
  https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/gumstix-android/2015-05-16/pepper/dev/MLO
  https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/gumstix-android/2015-05-16/pepper/dev/u-boot.img

Pepper outputs 2 lines to console, and hangup:

  U-Boot SPL 2014.10-g2775fbf (May 16 2015 - 02:31:56)
  Booting with DDR

More try with android's 'Disk Image' from https://store.gumstix.com/computers/pepper-43r.html
But reboot this.

Can you help me?

Thanks,

Re: Pepper 43C android

Andrew C. Smith
Hi Kiyohara

You need more files than just the MLO and u-boot.  Here are the files you need

Store these files in a folder named "boot"
uEnv.txt
MLO
u-boot.img
uInitrd
Store these files in a folder named "data"
userdata.tar.bz2
system.tar.bz2

I would then suggest using this script, place it in the main folder that contains boot and data
mkandroidsd.sh

You'll need to modify the following lines to point to directories where you saved the above files:
12:  OUTDIR="data"
13:  BOOTDIR="boot"

Once that's done, you should be able to run the script to create your SD card.  Assuming the sd card device is /dev/mmcblk0, you would run (make sure mkandroidsd.sh has execute permissions ... chmod +x mkandroidsd.sh):

sudo ./mkandroidsd.sh /dev/mmcblk0 pepper

Hope this helps, let me know if you have problems.

Andrew

Thanks.  But I tried with latest binaries from catalina.gumstix.com yet.
The 'android-pepper-dev-2016-06-04' was success to boot.

  https://catalina.gumstix.com/binaries/3835/

I looked the message on 4.3" NEWHEAVEN CAPACITIVE LCD.

Make yourself at home
You can put your favarite apps here.

                                              OK

----------------------------------------------------------------------

But to touch anywhere on the LCD panel does not have response.  X-<

Does my pepper or LCD is broken?

I will try these files at tonight.

Re: Pepper 43C android

I'm not sure if your problem is hardware or software.  Have you tried using a standard Yocto build on the Pepper 43C?

I'd suggest using the following DD'able image on an 8GB (or larger) uSD card.  Verify that the hardware is working and then test out Android.

https://gumstix-misc.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/usd30005-r1.8a.img.xz

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Kiyohara

Android is working on my hardware.  I suspect it is a problem with the way you are creating your SD card.  I will try to get a DD'able image uploaded for you to use.  In the mean time, try flashing the card again with the instructions above.

Give this image a try, it's a DDable image.  Make sure you're using an 8GB uSD card.

I was do dd(1) to *fresh* 16GB MicroSD.
I saw that Android is booted , but it does not respond yet to the touch.

For I get advice, whether you should make sure what?  For example, the
results of ps(1), lsmod(8), such as under /proc and /sys.

Thanks,

Android found two i2c busses.  Yocto more found.
