Overo Ubuntu 15.04 prebuilt image - Boot Failure - kernel filename mismatch & others

rdixey@comcast.net

Hi Gumstix Users,

I have an Overo FireStorm  with Angstrom 2011.03 in nand that is mounted in a Turtlecore and successfully boots from original pre-loaded microSD with Linaro/ROS

I am attempting to build a new 8GB microSD with Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid) using the newest pre-built dd ready Image generated by buildbot on 2016-08-26 for overo from master: https://catalina.gumstix.com/binaries/3964/ .

After following the instructions here: http://www.gumstix.org/getting-started-guide/242-create-a-bootable-microsd-card.html then booting from the new MicroSD, it fails.

  - There is no boot.scr, uImage or zImage on the boot partition.

  - uEnv.txt contains different filenames for the kernel & other files than the names of the files in /boot.

  - Somehow after booting from this new 15.04 mage, it resulted in ECC errors in the NAND. I just flash'ed the Angstrom image into Nand before building the New SD and it ran successfully.

Has anyone successfully used this pre-built dd ready 15.04 image?

Please provide instructions/guidance for correcting the boot problems and any other corrections required to make it work.

Or else please provide info for a known working image that boots.

Thanks in advance

Bob Dixey

Hi Bob,

It seems like the uEnv.txt which is generated by our buildbot system needs updating.

To solve your immediate issue, just replace the uEnv.txt on the SD card with the one I have attached and it should help you boot the kernel.

Let me know if this helps.

- Arun
