No output on serial

argelius
Hello,

I've built the yocto console image for my Gumstix Overo that's connected to a Tobi board.
I get no terminal output on boot (it seems to be booting though, since blue led flashes for a long time).

I run
$ sudo screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200
but the screen is blank.

Does anyone have any ideas on why this might be happening and how one would go about debugging it?

Re: No output on serial

Just checking, do you see /dev/ttyUSB0 coming up when you run 'dmesg'?

For example,

[160749.894224] usb 2-1.2: new full-speed USB device number 35 using ehci-pci
[160749.994450] usb 2-1.2: New USB device found, idVendor=0403, idProduct=6015
[160749.994457] usb 2-1.2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[160749.994462] usb 2-1.2: Product: FT230X Basic UART
[160749.994466] usb 2-1.2: Manufacturer: FTDI
[160749.994469] usb 2-1.2: SerialNumber: DB00449V
[160749.997955] ftdi_sio 2-1.2:1.0: FTDI USB Serial Device converter detected
[160749.998018] usb 2-1.2: Detected FT-X
[160749.998024] usb 2-1.2: Number of endpoints 2
[160749.998029] usb 2-1.2: Endpoint 1 MaxPacketSize 64
[160749.998034] usb 2-1.2: Endpoint 2 MaxPacketSize 64
[160749.998038] usb 2-1.2: Setting MaxPacketSize 64
[160749.998429] usb 2-1.2: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0

Let me know!

Re: No output on serial

Hello Adam,

Yes I get

[10399261.314587] usb 2-1.5: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0

when I run dmesg.

I've connected a monitor to the Tobi board and the kernel is booting nicely. I think I'll just connect a keyboard and go from there. It's strange that I don't get any output from the serial port though. :S

Kind regards,
Andreas

Re: No output on serial

argelius
Hello again,

Unfortunately I can't seem to connect a keyboard on the OTG-port. I haven't tried on the HOST-port yet since I don't have a USB hub.

I have another Tobi board where both the FTDI converter and OTG port are working, so I'm beginning to suspect that this Tobi board is broken. :(
Can't find it on the network either but the LED:s on my switch are flashing. I've tried both with DHCP and static IP.

Re: No output on serial

argelius
Now, it works. The Overo board was not completely connected to the Tobi board but it clicked into place after applying some force. :)
Sorry for all the emails.

Kind regards,
