Error in building task-gstreamer-ti

Mark Russell
Hi All,

I have an error when bitbake task-gstreamer-ti. I follow the steps (see link below) written by Scotts.

http://www.jumpnowtek.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=81:gumstix-dsp-gstreamer&catid=35:gumstix&Itemid=67

When it run to the task to build ti-dsplink_1.65.00.03.bb recipe, it fail at its do_prepsources() function. It says that it cannot execute the gmake file(under ~/oe/tmp/sysroots/overo-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/usr/share/ti/ti-xdctools-tree) due to "Exec format error". Below is the error messages:

Hi Mark Russell,

I am having exactly the some problem by following the same procedure given here: http://www.jumpnowtek.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=81:gumstix-dsp-gstreamer&catid=35:gumstix&Itemid=67.

Did you manage to solve yours? if yes, please assist me in solving mine using your approach.

Thank you,

Not completely sure...I did not run into this error..2 things I would check..in your sources folder do you have tar "dsplink_linux_1_65_00_03.tar.gz" and also I would compare it to the md5. I checked my sources folder I had that.  This was not from jumptek tutorial but pixhawk: https://pixhawk.ethz.ch/tutorials/omap/dsplink ...good luck!

Re: Error in building task-gstreamer-ti

Gutembert
Yes zoso1234,

I have tar "dsplink_linux_1_65_00_03.tar.gz", "dsplink_linux_1_65_00_03.tar.gz.md5" in my sources folder; I haven't got "dsplink_linux_1_65_00_03.tar.gz.sha256sum" but I did the "sha256sum dsplink_linux_1_65_00_03.tar.gz > dsplink_linux_1_65_00_03.tar.gz.sha256sum".

I then "cat dsplink_linux_1_65_00_03.tar.gz.md5" and "cat dsplink_linux_1_65_00_03.tar.gz.sha256sum" resulting in the following:

 1bda596b631bd2f517edc70f6be4f2ca

 4b1bda89bd8465b887f5bcdf7b95018bc1d1f8968c0c44f8cbad2a9e1c52bcb7

Which is the same as the one in the "ti-dsplink_1.65.00.03.bb" file (overo-oe/org.openembedded.dev/recipes/ti/).

I went on https://pixhawk.ethz.ch/tutorials/omap/dsplink as you suggested but I couldn't find the "dsplink_linux_1_65_00_03", their latest version was "DSP/BIOS Link for Linux 1.63.01".

What can I do from here?

Any help from anyone is welcome,
Gutembert.

Sorry I don't know :( I am rebuilding everything from scratch on a external hard-drive. Once I get to this point I will try to document anything else I had to do to get through this step.

Re: Error in building task-gstreamer-ti

zoso1234
Well my image is still building but it looks like I made it past the error that you guys are having..so for that package: ti-dsplink-1_1_65_00_03..

I downloaded dsplink_linux_1_65_00_03.tar.gz from TI  and added that to the sources directory and also I then made a md5 and sha256sum for it and compared it with the recipe in the TI folder in the org/recipes/ti folder to ensure that they matched. Did you do this as well? I can list more of what I did but for that error I think maybe what I have listed would solve it. If you downloaded a different tar I think you could get away with it but you would probably have to check to see if there is a recipe for it or make one for it. and also check the angstrom-codec-engine-latest-perferred-versions.inc to see what version of the dsplink is perferred.

Hope this helps

Hi Gutembert,

I am sorry but I cant remember the exact procedure on how i solve the issue. If I remember correctly, I bitbake the task-gstreamer-ti the second time to solve the issue. I also use the command "bitbake -k task-gstreamer-ti" instead of "bitbake task-gstreamer-ti".

Just to check, did you set the kernel version correctly before bitbake task-gstreamer-ti ?

If really my solution above cannot solve your problem, you should try out on Zoso1234 methods. Very sorry cant help you much.

I am in the process of trying the exact thing I am on a VM of Ubuntu
10.04 64bit, nothing done but what the wiki states. What I had to do is
bitbake -k task-gstreamer-ti. Then once it was done, bitbake -c clean
task-gstreamer-ti; bitbake task-gstreamer-ti. Let it build until it
fails and will give you just the set of packages that fail. For dsplink
all I had to do then was, bitbake -c clean ti-dsplink; bitbake
ti-dsplink. It then rebuilt, there were a total of 4 failures building
it for me each were solved by going through one by one and cleaning it
and rebuilding if it failed due to one of the other packages not being
built first, clean that one and rebuild then go back until all have
cleared up. Then task-gstreamer-ti built for me completely.

Though now that I have added it to my image in the manner shown on the
jump page everyone is using it fails building into my actual image with
linker issues while building gstreamer-ti, giving me this error.

| arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi-libtool: link: warning: library

which to me makes no sense since it just built without being put into
the image, I even just rm -rf tmp/ and rebuilt task-gstreamer-ti first
built completely then built the image and it fails on the gstreamer-ti
recipe, very confusing.

Hope some of this helps

Well I was able to work through this stated issue I had with what I
already said as well as applying this patch to the gstreamer-ti.inc recipe.

It is from 6/23/11
http://cgit.openembedded.org/openembedded/patch/?id=ea41560b2cadfa184de8122e0395b92fd7c35c39

You can either apply it yourself or just apply the 2 new lines yourself
if unsure on patching. Do others have local changes they have had to do
but not mentioned on the boards? I have had to do other changes but only
checksums so far, and when I test built the omap3-desktop-image empathy
failed to build but I did not look into as I do not need it and went to
building my image.

How I found this patch was searching for the name of the recipe and the
issue at hand which for me was libtool. Which led me to a few things
close until I found this.

Hope this helps someone.

Thank you Zoso1234,

You said: "I downloaded dsplink_linux_1_65_00_03.tar.gz from TI" could you please provide me the link for the download page? or could you email me the "dsplink_linux_1_65_00_03.tar.

Steve,

this is how my recipe looks like:

nganpet@nganpet-PROLINE-DQ35JOE:~/overo-oe/org.openembedded.dev/recipes/ti$ more ti-dsplink_1.65.00.03.bb

require ti-dsplink.inc

PE = "1"
PV = "1_65_00_03"
PV_dot = "1.65.00.03"
PV_major = "1_65"

PV_DL_PATH = "DSPLink/${PV_major}/${PV}/${PV_dot}"

SRC_URI += "file://dsplink-BKL-fix.patch"

SRC_URI[dsplinktarball.md5sum] = "1bda596b631bd2f517edc70f6be4f2ca"
SRC_URI[dsplinktarball.sha256sum] = "4b1bda89bd8465b887f5bcdf7b95018bc1d1f8968c0
c44f8cbad2a9e1c52bcb7"

If different from yours, could you please send me your recipe so that I can substitute it in mine to try to get over this TI DSP build image?

Thank you,
Gutembert.

Re: Error in building task-gstreamer-ti

My recipe is the same...http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/DSPLink/index.html

There is a link to the tar...when i rebuilt openembedded/bitbake for external harddrive i just copied all the ti tar's from my old bitbake org/source folder...now that I think about I'm not sure that I ever physically downloaded that tar file. I followed the jumptek and pixhawk tutorials and stuff I found on here to a tee. I did download the dsplink_1_61_03 tar which I think was on the pixhawk tutorial. I wonder if that tar makes the other one? Any way you might want to clean the recipes as stated above too.

good luck!

Having no problems building on fedora 16.
Just followed the wiki instructions and openembedded wiki  for host
packages. Installed the TI packages as per Scots instructions and its good.

Re: Error in building task-gstreamer-ti

Gutembert
I am having all kind of trouble building the TI DSP on Ubuntu 11.10!

I have tried all proposed methods but still nothing seems working.

Maybe the best way will be getting someone's built dsp image ready for the MicroSD Card.I successfully build the  omap3-console-image and the x-load using Ubuntu 11.10.

Any volunteer willing to share with me his/her dsp image will greatly be appreciated.

Thank you,

Having no problems building on fedora 16.
Just followed the wiki instructions and openembedded wiki  for host
packages. Installed the TI packages as per Scots instructions and its good.

I only build console images can share one.

Can build a dsp-desktop image but I'm not going to be able to test it as
our hardware is setup for console images only.

We don't have streaming video setup or any video output from the gumstix
overo. Usual problem with marketing people looking after/controlling
websites.

Academics can request access , the rig will be back up and running in a
fortnight.

Just started work on a new fpga rig to replace the old ones

Re: Error in building task-gstreamer-ti

Gutembert
Thank you Alex,

I will look at them. Could you please tell me which kernel they were built with?

Regards,
Gutembert.

Re: Error in building task-gstreamer-ti

Gutembert
Thanks to all Gumstix's users on this forum,

This is the benefit of never giving up!!!!!

Folks/Guys, I made it! I finally built the dsp-console-image using Ubuntu 11.10, 32bit.

Here are my steps:

1. Use this tutorial as a starting point:
http://jumpnowtek.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=81:gumstix-dsp-gstreamer&catid=35:gumstix&Itemid=67

2. changed the PREFERED_VERSION_ti-linuxutils to "3_22_00_02" in
overo-oe/org.openembedded.dev/conf/distro/include/angstrom-codec-engine-latest-preferred-versions.inc

3. Add the ti-linuxutils_3.22.00.02.bb (http://gumstix.8.n6.nabble.com/file/n4636617/ti-linuxutils_3.22.00.02.bb) in the TI folder (overo-oe/org.openembedded.dev/receips/ti)

4. If you want to use these recipes for your own testing, copy them to /overo-oe/org.openembedded.dev/recipes/images/.
dsp-console-image.bb
dsp-desktop-image.bb

5. Add the 2 new lines here: http://cgit.openembedded.org/openembedded/patch/?id=ea41560b2cadfa184de8122e0395b92fd7c35c39; (It is from 6/23/11) to the gstreamer-ti.inc recipe (/overo-oe/org.openembedded.dev/receipes/ti).

6. run the kernel clean script (https://gist.github.com/1089584#file_kernel_change_prep.sh)

7. run bitbake –c clean ti-dsplink

8. run rm -r $OVEROTOP/tmp/cache/*

9. add these two lines :
# prefer 2.6.34 over the default gumstix 2.6.36 kernel
PREFERRED_VERSION_linux-omap3 = “2.6.34”

at the end of local.conf (~/overo-oe/build/conf)

10. bake the dsp-console-image (bitbake dsp-console-image)

And voila! dsp-console-image-overo.tar.bz2 and dsp-console-image-overo.ubi can be found in your /overo-oe/tmp/deploy/glibc/images/overo

Cheers,
Gutembert.

Re: Error in building task-gstreamer-ti

zoso1234
That's great you got it working! I could never get the 2.6 kernel to work..I could build it but never boot :( Let me know if you tool around with the desktop build. I still have not yet gotten that one to work..im toying around with a different desktop build now.

could you or someone else go into a little depth on how patches are applied? I have seen some recipe folders where there are .patches. Are you supppose to save the file to your folder and then go into the recipe and add a line for the patch? Or do you just directly go into the recipe and copy and paste the lines in?

thanks
