CMEMK Error: Failed to request_mem_region(0x86300000, 16777216)

rklosinski
Im following the instructions at jumpnowtek http://www.jumpnowtek.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=81:gumstix-dsp-gstreamer&catid=35:gumstix&Itemid=67  to use the dsp to stream video with the water storm. I finally got everything built, but im having problems getting the memory space freed up and get the following:

Can someone explain to me how to use mkimage and add the boot.src described by jumnowtek?

thanks

Your Overo Water has NAND, so you really don't have to use a boot.scr...

You can just stop the countdown in u-boot and edit your config using
"setenv" and "saveenv" as the jumpnowtek page shows.

The Tide is different, in that it doesn't have NAND to store the uboot
environment, so if you want to use something besides the default
environment settings, you need to create the script file and save it
on the sd card.

Re: CMEMK Error: Failed to request_mem_region(0x86300000, 16777216)

Thanks,

I interrupted the boot, typed:

setenv bootargs console=ttyS2,115200n8 mpurate=720 vram=12M i2c_bus=3,100 mem=96M@0x80000000 mem=384M@0x88000000 omapfb.mode=dvi:1024x768MR-16@60 omapdss.def_disp=dvi root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootfstype=ext3 rootwait

then run mmcargs ; saveenv.

Now it hangs after "Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel.".

So I then erase nand and started over again with stock mmcargs command :
setenv mmcargs setenv bootargs console=ttyS2,115200n8 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootfstype=ext3 rootwait
run mmcargs ; saveenv.

the boot got past the hang.

Next, I added just the mem stuff:
setenv mmcargs setenv bootargs console=ttyS2,115200n8 mem=96M@0x80000000 mem=384M@0x88000000 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootfstype=ext3 rootwait
run mmcargs ; saveenv.

Still hangs.

Any ideas?

What kind of board do you have? Maybe try:
mem=96M@0x80000000 mem=128M@0x88000000
and see if that boots. If the kernel is not booting it has to be something simple like the memory configuration doesn't match the physical hardware.

Ummm, how old is the Water?  Did the Overo Water devices always have
512MB of ram?  If not, then maybe that is the problem.  If it only has
256MB, then you should use:

mem=96M@0x80000000 mem=128M@0x88000000

And you're using the same kernel in both tests?  At some point the
kernel console changed from ttyS2 to ttyO2.

Re: CMEMK Error: Failed to request_mem_region(0x86300000, 16777216)

rklosinski
Its a waterstorm, about a few weeks old (at least i received it a few weeks ago)

Im using the same kernel in both tests (well I did not intentionally change it). anyway I tried this:

setenv mmcargs setenv bootargs console=ttyS2,115200n8 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootfstype=ext3 rootwait

and it boots

setenv mmcargs setenv bootargs console=ttyS2,115200n8 mem=96M@0x80000000 mem=384M@0x88000000 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootfstype=ext3 rootwait

its well hung.

so interesting enough, i tried what you suggested:
setenv mmcargs setenv bootargs console=ttyS2,115200n8 mem=96M@0x80000000 mem=128M@0x88000000 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootfstype=ext3 rootwait
run mmcargs
saveenv

and it did not hang.... BUT it still came up and initialized cmemk w/o failure!!! Hmmm not sure why it worked....

Now onto gstreaming.... which im sure will generate a host of other opportunistic (read problems).....

Steven
Newer kernels (like the default on *STORM boards) should be using
"console=ttyO2".
