Build error with creating an OpenEmbedded Build System for the Overo Series

Bardiya Shadmehr

Hello,

I'm trying to create a OpenEmbedded build system, and I went to http://www.gumstix.org/software-development/open-embedded/61-using-the-open-embedded-build-system.html and followed the instructions there.  On the last step (bitbake omap3-console-image) I ran into the following error:

NOTE: Running task 1719 of 5168 (ID: 910, /home/dns/overo-oe/org.openembedded.dev/recipes/linux/linux-omap3_2.6.39.bb, do_fetch)

NOTE: package linux-omap3-2.6.39-r102: task do_fetch: Started

fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git

NOTE: package linux-omap3-2.6.39-r102: task Fetch failed: Unable to
fetch URL

ERROR: Task 910
(/home/dns/overo-oe/org.openembedded.dev/recipes/linux/linux-omap3_2.6.39.bb,
 do_fetch) failed with exit code '1'

ERROR: '/home/dns/overo-oe/org.openembedded.dev/recipes/linux/linux-omap3_2.6.39.bb' failed

When I got similar errors in the past, I modified the SRC_URI in the file to a working link.  However, I haven't been able to find a working link in this case.  Has anyone else found a working link or an alternative solution?  Thanks for your help.

Hi Bardiya,

I just tried a clean build of the kernel that went fine. It's possible
that Steve's server was down when you tried to build. If you still
have a problem please post the contents of
/home/dns/overo-oe/org.openembedded.dev/recipes/linux/linux-omap3_2.6.39.bb

Re: Build error with creating an OpenEmbedded Build System for the Overo Series

Neil MacMunn
That recipe matches mine. Only other thing I can suggest is removing
old sources before trying another clean build. Something like this.

 $ mkdir oldsources
 $ cd oldsources
 $ mv ~/overo-oe/sources/git_www.sakoman.com.git.linux-omap-2.6.git* ./
 $ bitbake -c clean linux-omap3
 $ bitbake linux-omap3

If that doesn't work then I think it must be a network problem. If
such is the case, you can return the old sources and revert
linux-omap3_2.6.39.bb one commit. Otherwise you can just wait for git
to come back up.

Re: Build error with creating an OpenEmbedded Build System for the Overo Series

Bardiya Shadmehr

I ran "git clone git://www.sakoman.com/git/linux-omap-2.6.git;branch=omap-2.6.39;protocol=git" without any trouble, so I think the network is fine.  Should I just copy this folder to a directory inside overo-oe?  Should I rewrite linux-omap3_2.6.39.bb?

Probably not the issue, but I suggest that you modify the recipe to
use commit 45183d5874942b20846fd11b7dd583f69ff4eeff.  That will pick
up a fix for a small memory leak in the ubifs code.

Re: Build error with creating an OpenEmbedded Build System for the Overo Series

Bardiya Shadmehr

I ran the commands suggested by Neil, but I kept getting the same error.  I then ran "git clone git://www.sakoman.com/git/linux-omap-2.6.git;branch=omap-2.6.39;protocol=git" without any trouble.  Should I just copy this folder to a directory inside overo-oe?  Additionally, I modified the recipe to use the different commit, but I still got the same error.

Re: Build error with creating an OpenEmbedded Build System for the Overo Series

As per Steve's suggestion I changed the SRCREV for the recipe. Can you
post the output of these two commands?

 $ ls  ~/overo-oe/sources/git_www.sakoman.com.git*
 $ cat ~/overo-oe/tmp/work/overo-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/linux-omap3-2.6.39-r102/temp/log.do_fetch

Neil MacMunn
You might try moving or removing the .lock files. I can't say for sure
whether this is your problem as I haven't been able to recreate it.

Re: Build error with creating an OpenEmbedded Build System for the Overo Series

stratvio
I think I was having the same problem as you... after reading this thread I found the lock files you had in ~/overo-oe/sources/, which I removed, as well as an empty directory in ~/overo-oe/sources/git/ named www.sakoman.com.git.linux-omap-2.6.git.  Inspired by your question about whether you should download manually and copy somewhere, I deleted that www.sakoman.com.git.lin... directory, ran "git clone git://www.sakoman.com/git/linux-omap-2.6.git;branch=omap-2.6.39;protocol=git", which resulted in a linux-omap-2.6/ directory, then renamed that: "mv linux-omap-2.6/ www.sakoman.com.git.linux-omap-2.6.git".  Next I did "bitbake linux-omap3" and it finally worked, now I'm onto try the rest of the bitbake process.
Hope that helps,
Eric
